Cooperation with stakeholders is essential in order to achieve lasting improvements. Below you can read about our partnerships and the networks we are part of.
Sustainability Xchange is a knowledge-sharing platform for sustainable supply chain development. The platform is set up to provide opportunities for sharing local knowledge and expertise on ethical trade issues. Civil society groups, NGOs, trade unions and consultants are all part of the network.
SAVE (Social Awareness and Voluntary Eduction)
SAVE is an NGO based in Tirupur, India and has been working for the last 25 years to abolish child labor and has been involved in the empowerment of women as well as comprehensive development projects of the textile and garment industry workers. SAVE has been operating as a campaigner for the protection and promotion of the rights of the textile and garment workers. Varner has been cooperating with SAVE since 2018 in a project addressing unfair labour practices in the spinning mill sector in Tamil Nadu.
United Work Reintegration and Placement Services is a non-profit organization that is running a social responsibility project funded by the Dutch Government aiming to support Syrian refugees being employed in Turkey. Varner has been cooperating with United Work since 2018 to support refugees in finding formal work in the garment sector.
JOINT ETHICAL TRADING INITIATIVES (JETI)
JETI is an ethical trading platform in Bangladesh established through collaboration between the Ethical Trading Initiative, UK, the Danish Ethical Trading Initiative and the Ethical Trading Initiative in Norway. Varner has cooperated with JETI since 2015 in the implementation of JETI’s Social Dialogue Program in the Varner supply chain in Bangladesh.
THE ACCORD BANGLADESH
The Accord Bangladesh is an independent, legally binding 5-year agreement between brands and trade unions designed to work towards a safe and healthy Garment Industry in Bangladesh. We signed the agreement in 2013.
Advit Foundation is an Indian NGO, working for conservation of environment resources and livelihood enhancement. The organizations work focuses on improving living/working conditions through improved environment conditions, promoting environment education and conservation practices. We have been cooperating with Advit Foundation since 2016.
ASSOCIATION FOR SOLIDARITY WITH ASYLUM SEEKERS AND MIGRANTS (ASAM) / REFUGEE SUPPORT CENTER (MUDEM)
ASAM and MUDEM are Turkish organizations providing solutions for the problems encountered by refugees and asylum seekers. We have since 2015 cooperated with them finding solutions for refugees connected with our supply chain.
THE CENTER FOR CHILD RIGHTS AND CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY (CCR CSR)
CCR CSR is a China based implementing partner of Save the Children providing services and expertise to help businesses with programs and projects that improve the lives of children, young workers and working migrant parents. We have been cooperating with CCR CSR since 2014.
CENTRE FOR RESPONSIBLE BUSINESS (CRB)
CRB is based in India develops and implements capacity building programs. We have cooperated with them since 2015 for training of workers, supervisors and management on workplace rights and responsibilities.
Elevate is a global service provider focused on solutions for responsible sourcing and supports client with customized programs to manage risk and improve supply chain social, environmental and business performance. Elevate have since 2016 been our main partner for social audits in the supply chain.
ETHICAL TRADE NORWAY
IEH is a resource center and an advocate for ethical trade practices. Their objective is cooperation on trade which promotes human rights, workers' rights, development and environmental standards.
Fairtrade is the most renowned and recognized certification for fair trade. The certification ensures that the raw materials are grown and harvested by standards for safe working conditions and sustainable farming. We have been working with Fairtrade certification since 2017.
QuizRR is a Swedish organization aiming to help companies to manage risk in supply chains and provide training at workplaces in innovative ways, adding measurability and scale.
TAOS is a China based organization that aims to promote, enable and focus resources in global supplier networks toward creating a humane production workplace through monitoring, training and mentoring. We are cooperating with TAOS on project basis.
· CYDD (Association for the Support of Contemporary Living)
CYDD is a Turkish NGO working on the topics of breaches of democracy, human rights and violation of law, particularly related to education, rights of women, and environmental issues. We have been cooperating with CYDD in the “From Production Back to Education Project” since 2017.
Materials & Environment
MinShed is a three year research project with the overall goal to create knowledge which will help the textile industry to design clothes made of synthetic fabrics which do not emit microplastics.
WargoTex Development will drive the development of large-scale systems and sorting technologies for reuse and recycling.
Varner is a member of the Handelsens Miljøfond where the aim is to reduce plastic littering, increase plastic recycling and reduce the use of plastic carrier bags.
BETTER COTTON INITIATIVE (BCI)
A multi-stakeholder organization addressing the negative impacts of cotton in global supply chains. The aim of the organization is to make cotton production it better for the people who produce it, better for the environment and better for the future of the sector. Varner became a member in 2016.
THE GREEN DOT
The Green Dot (Norwegian: Grønt Punkt) is the European license symbol of industry-funded systems responsible for recycling used packaging. Consumers who see the logo should know that the company of the product contributes to the cost of recovery and recycling.
A network for sharing the latest developments in restrictions and rules for chemicals. We have been a member of the group since 2012.
The project is about understanding the environmental behaviour and impacts of microplastic fibres (MPFs) in the aquatic environment, in order to develop a decision support framework that enables garment manufacturers to make environmentally informed choices in their material selection.
The Swan is the official Nordic ecolabel. The Swan logo demonstrates that a product is a good environmental choice. We introduced the first Swan certified products to the market in 2015.
SWEDEN TEXTILE WATER INITIATIVE (STWI)
An initiative based on cooperation between the textile industry and Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI). The idea behind the initiative is to gain a better understanding of the water challenges faced by the industry and finding the right mechanisms to address them. We became a member of the initiative in 2016.
Textile Exchange is a global nonprofit organization that works to make the textile industry more sustainable. We became a member in 2016.
Fretex is the largest collector of used clothes and textiles in Norway and has operations internationally. We have since 2012 cooperated with Fretex for collection of overstocked goods, claims and used products.
We have take-back collection boxes in Dressmann, Bikbok and Cubus stores.
THE NORWEGIAN RED CROSS
The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is the world's largest humanitarian network. The Movement is neutral and impartial, and provides protection and assistance to people affected by disasters and conflicts. Carlings has supported the Norwegian Red Cross since 2015, focusing on projects in Colombia and engaging employees through Carlings for Colombia.
PLAN INTERNATIONAL NORWAY
An organization aimed to promote children’s right to health care, education, and protection from violence and abuse. Bik Bok have cooperated with Plan International Norway since 2011 since 2014 in the campaign Girls Right to Education.
SAVE THE CHILDREN
Save the Children is a global organization working for children’s rights giving children a healthy start in life, the opportunity to learn and protection from harm. Dressmann is a main partner for Save the Children Norway. Dressmann and Save the Children have been cooperating on the project Work 2 Learn since 2013 providing vocational education to young people in Bangladesh.
Ung Norge (and local branch Ung Oslo) is an organization working to ensure a good childhood for underprivileged children and adolescent. Dressmann has been cooperating with Ung Norge since
UNICEF is a leading humanitarian and development organization working globally for the rights of children. Cubus has been a signature partner of UNICEF Norway since 2006 with a particular focus on protection children’s rights in Bangladesh.
